    A. History of the Institute, its Logo:

    There are 11 (eleven) ITIs in the state, 6 (six) in the valley districts and 5 (five) in the hill districts with a seating capacity of 2485 trainees in 26 different engineering and non-engineering trades which are affiliated to the NCVT & SCVT under the CTS. They are under the administrative control of the Directorate of Craftsmen Training, Manipur located at the D.C. office complex, Lamphelpat, Imphal West under the supervision of Shri P. Robindro Singh, Joint, Director of Craftsmen Training, who is the head of the Department.

                    The Govt. Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Kakching is located at Kakching Wairi and the origin of the Mantak Village. The total distance from Imphal city to the Institute is about 44.5 kms. and from the district head quarter to the Institute is about  4 kms. The Institute can be reached by MSRTC/local buses directly daily from Imphal to Kakching bazar, then from Kakching bazar to the Institute by autorickshaw. The main occupation of this village is agriculture with peoples following Hinduism and some meiteism. Their main products are rice and maize. Most of the people belong to Schedule Caste (S.C.) and the neighbouring village of this Institute is known as Kakching Mantak Village, for this people are almost Schedule Tribes (S.T.) and religion is Christianity.

                    The Govt. Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Kakching was established under the PM’s Special Package Programme   for “Establishment of ITIs in NE States and Sikkim” and “Strengthening of Existing ITIs” in North Eastern States & Sikkim, in the year 2003 with 100% funding by the GoI during the X-Plan period to provide vocational/skill training to the unemployed youths in the economy by providing skilled main power in different sectors with varying levels and expertise in the country. Initially, the Govt. ITI, Kakching was established with 4 (four) different trades by appointing different categories of staffs on contract basis. The first academic session was commenced during 2003-04 at Kakching Makha Leikai, Weaver Co-Operative Society Hall. In the next year 2004-05 another 4 (Four) trades were upgraded with a seating capacity of 128 trainees and from 2007 onwards, this Institute was shifted to its own building. During academic session of 2016, another 3 (three) trades were upgraded under the ESDI (Enhancing Skill Development Infrastrcture) Scheme in North Eastern States.For now, this Institute have 11 (Eleven) trades with a seating capacity of 252 trainees.
