Government Industrial Training Institute, ITI, Phaknung, Imphal East, was established in the year 2003 under PM’s special Package programme with an objective to ensure a steady flow of skilled personal to the public and private sectors, and to reduce unemployment amongst the educated youth by equipping them with required skills, education and discipline for suitable Industrial employment as well as self-employment. The institute is located at Phaknung village, near Itam Bridge, 14 KM away from Imphal City with 3(Three) different Bocks/Campus adjoining to NH-150. Initially, under ‘PM’s special package programme the Institute runs with 4 trades:  COPA, IT&ESM, Secretarial Practice and Embroidery and Needle Work, in a rented classrooms of Biramangol College, Sawombung. In the year 2004, it was upgraded under the same package with another 4 new trades: Electronics Mechanic, Surveyor, Draughtsman Civil and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. In the year 2007, the Institute was sifted from Biramangol College, Sawombung to the present location with its own Building in 3(three) different blocks. Subsequently, in the year 2009, six more new trades under VTIP were upgraded: Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Electrician, Dress Making, Hair & skin care, Preservation of Fruits and Vegetables and Food Production (General). This ITI has been imparting training in various Engineering and Non-Engineering trade courses suitable to the Indian industrial environment. The training periods range from one year to two years in over 14 (Fourteen) different Trades/specialities. All the 14 Trades were affiliated from SCVT to NCVT on 9th November, 2022. Prerequisites for the courses range from 8th to 10th class pass. The training is imparted as per the syllabus and curriculum approved by Government of India in consultation with National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). Upon completion of the training, trainees write the All India Trade Test (AITT). Successful trainees receive the National trade Certificate (NTC). Besides, Electrician trade is sponsored by Schneider Electrical with an agreement to provide job assurance to the trainees upon successful completion of the course and the first batch will be completed in July, 2025.
